Schutzund/IGP

Schutzhund, now known competitively as IGP or previously IPO, is a dog sport that evaluates a dog's tracking, obedience, and protection skills. It's a German term meaning "protection dog," originally developed to assess the working aptitude of German Shepherds, but now open to other breeds. Schutzhund aims to identify dogs with strong working temperaments and desirable traits like courage, intelligence, and trainability.

We are a DVG and GSDCA sanctioned club that trains in Orinda, California.  We offer two trials annually and welcome all breeds. The LamOrinda Working dog club is dedicated to protecting and preserving all working dog's temperament through sport.

IGP is considered the triathlon of dog training, consisting of three phases: tracking, obedience, and protection. Each is weighted equally in competition. The sport focuses on the relationship between dog and handler while simultaneously evaluating the traits of working animals.

DogMastery offers private sport training throughout the week and club environment training on the weekends. Whether you are preparing for a club, regional, national, or world event, DogMastery can help. Pack leader Marc Eric James has assisted several dog teams,  and breeds to the World Championships. He has been selected as the front half helper at two Regional and three National Championships over his career.
